Scientific Writing - LaTeX

TeX (pronounced tech) is a typesetting programme which was wriiten by Donald Knuth specifically for the production of scientific documents. It is especially good at producing scientific formulae and well set-out documents that are easy to read. LaTeX is a programme that uses the TeX programme to produce documents. The input is plain text so documents can be written using any typing programme.

LaTeX is free software, and can be downloaded from the LaTeX project site. The software that I use is MiKTeX running with TeXnicCenter, although proTeXt seems to be an easier programme to download and use.
